Learning English as a second language is much different than learning as a native English speaker. Learning English is not just about grammar, spelling and vocabulary. Our ESL Learning Coaches are fun, friendly and teach about things like culture, money and living life in Canada. Our English Language programs are designed to help learners who are new to the country and to the English Language.

This conversational English social group is hosted by the library. Make new friends and practice your listening and speaking skills in a relaxed, fun and easy way. A learning coach participates in the group and is available to help with any questions you have about the English language or our community. No registration is required. 1. What is an assessment?
An assessment is an informal tool that we use to help us help you. It takes about an hour and is done in the library on a computer. It helps your coach know where and how to start in order to reach your learning goals.
2. What are Learning Coaches?
Learning Coaches are volunteers who have been trained in teaching English as a Second Language.
3. How often do I have to meet with my Learning Coach?
To improve your English it is recommended that you meet with your Learning Coach at least once a week for two hours. Meeting weekly for at least six months.
4. Where do we meet?
We ask that you meet your Learning Coach in the Devon Public Library during opening hours.
5. What if I don't like my Learning Coach?
We try and match you with a Learning Coach who has similar interests. We know that not everyone gets along, if you decide that you don't like your Learning Coach we will try and match you with someone you can relate to.
